For sleep or not for sleep? What’s up with CBN?

CBN is short for cannabinol, which is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis/hemp plant. Unlike THC, CBN does not have any psychoactive effects, which means it won’t make you feel high.

CBN has not been studied as much as CBD but the studies that have been done, along with anecdotal evidence, suggest that CBN may help to reduce anxiety, promote relaxation, and help with sleep. In addition, it may also help relieve pain, increase appetite, have neuroprotective properties, as well as help with inflammation.

CBN is available in tinctures (liquid) or delicious gummies with a special terpene blend to help promote sleep, relaxation and reduce anxiety/stress. Either can be used about 30-60 minutes prior to sleep or as needed. The dose will vary from person to person, but it is best to start with a low dose and titrate up slowly if needed.

We have heard wonderful feedback from CBN helping with sleep by itself or along with CBD and/or Melatonin. For those with a hangover effect of Melatonin, CBN can be a great alternative without the morning groggy feeling (or you may need to reduce your melatonin dose or make sure you aren’t using a sustained release Melatonin).

Also, don’t forget about good sleep hygiene:

  • About 2 hours prior to bedtime avoid blue lights (computer screens, tablets, phones, etc.), dim the lights in the home (or have some lights/lamps that have amber bulbs you can turn on at night—I have mine in lamps in the living room and nightstands)

  • Take a warm bath (Epsom salt with lavender is nice)

  • Avoid stressful TV programs/news

  • Meditate

  • Be ready to go to bed and sleep when tired

  • Avoid sugar/caffeine

  • Check for proper hormone balance

So why not give CBN a try for yourself? Sweet dreams to all!

**Since it is considered a natural rest supplement, we recommend taking CBN, or any sleep aids, only when you are home, ready to rest, and avoid operating machinery or a vehicle.
